IT'S GREAT TO BE BACK
after ten years it
is good to be back!
I first met G.M. Louie Castaneda in 1985 at Fantasy Game Center in the Star Market
Shopping Center. He was the Manager/Clerk and I had just moved here from Santa Cruz
and new nobody. I would get my quarters and talk about martial arts and other stuff.
I had told him of my childhood and how my father had enrolled me at Song'
Martial arts academy when i was 12. Louie would tell me of Kenpo, Ed Parker
and how he just loved it so much. Who would of thought that our paths would cross in
a later date. Three years later I was at this small restaurant having breakfast with a
friend and he told me of this school in marina called bojukaryu and of Sensei Stewart so I
went by and started training with them. After 6 months I decided to
leave because it just did not seem right for me. I later herd of a small
school that was located on Alisal st. so I went by to check it out. To my surprise
there was Louie with his 1st degree brown belt on. We talked for hours and I
enrolled thatsame day. a few months later we moved to Merced st. and I was promoted
to my first rank"yellow belt" by G,m. Castaneda at that time or a little before
G.M. Louie Castaneda was promoted to his 1st degree black belt by the founder of yen ching
tao Sifu Douglas Mcleod. I had a great relationship with G.M. Louie Castaneda for
many years, Of course there where many time that he was upset with me and others, but when
i showed up everyday he was very happy. how would i know
that because of his love for martial arts, this would be the beginning of my
profession. We had a great group of student that I loved a lot. Back in the
mid 90's i was asked to start a demo team to perform in Monterey and that was a lot of
work. Because of G.M.Castaneda it turned out to be one of my best accomplishments.
In 1996 we were
informed by the owner of Martial Arts Institute "Al Salinas" That he was
relocating because of work and that if he could not sell the school he would have to
close it down. After many months of discussion I decided to buy the school. It
wasn't tell the final day that i was informed by Mr. Salinas that G.M. Castaneda had a
moral interest in the school, but could not own the school because of personal reasons and
a letter from Mr. Salinas stating in fact that. Many hours of discussion later came
to agreement with both of Salinas and G.M. Castaneda. The Agreement States:
I was the Owner and he was the Head Instructor of Martial Arts Institute.
That was working great for a few years, but something happen and I do not no what?
One day he informed me that he wanted to put his half in his wife name and we argued for
days, weeks and even months with no settlement. It was one of my worst days
ever. After many night staying up thinking what can I do, I made a BAD
CALL, I kicked the Castaneda's out of the school.
Many months Founder
Sifu Douglas McLeod tried to resolve this problem but it just got worse! G.M. Louie
Castaneda and his wife started their own school 8 miles away. They both started
telling other in the martial arts community that I new NOTHING and that all my training is
fake. They both sent me a copy of a bad letter that they wrote and had it signed by
some of our blackbelts and a few student that just crushed me. They took the
letter to a High respected Shihan to slam me in front of him, but with no satisfaction.
I HAD ALL I
COULD TAKE AND I WAS NOT GOING TO TAKE NO MORE!!!
That day I read the
agreement that was signed by both Louie and Al when I bought the school, stating that
they would not compete with me for a time that was on the contract so I had
to shut them down. A year went by when I herd that G.M. Louie Castaneda was badly
sick. It was told to me that he had lung cancer and I said to myself here it goes
again.
Let me explain In 1995 my mother died of lung cancer and to this date I am not over her
death at all. So when I had herd of Louie I just barried my head in the sand and
pretended that it was not happening!
This is my
conclusion at this point of my life. I made many mistakes I am human but forgot that
at that time. If I hurt anyone with my action I hope that you forgive me. I
will never forget you "Grand Master Louie Castaneda" and what you have shown me
to do and not to do.
I will remember that you were human and you did the best that you could and for that I
love you with all my heart.
